Hunley is located within easy reach of dozens of Yorkshire’s most popular attractions and many of our guests use the hotel as a base to explore the natural wonders of the surrounding area, as well as to discover the fascinating sights of nearby towns and villages.
With more than 500 square miles of magnificent parkland, the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is a magnet for hikers, cyclists and lovers of nature. And since the park is only 4 miles from Hunley, the hotel is accustomed to accommodating walking groups and those in the area to take advantage of the many outdoor activities available.
Walkers are spoilt for choice, with the Cleveland Way’s more than 100 miles of trails on the doorstep, weaving along the rugged coastline and through the moors. The infamous Coast to Coast trail starting in St Bees in Cumbria finishes up 190 miles later in Robin Hood’s Bay, with the last stretch winding over the Cleveland Hills and North York Moors near Hunley’s grounds.
The beautiful seaside town of Whitby lies just a few miles to the North/South along the coast. Its charming streets, dramatic ruins which served as inspiration to novelist Bram Stoker for his vampire novel Dracula, and fame as the birthplace of explorer Captain James Cook make it popular with sightseers, literary fans and amateur historians alike. The town’s annual regatta in August includes three days of yacht and rowing races, as well as air displays, family entertainment and a fireworks extravaganza.
Hunley’s nearest neighbour, Saltburn-By-The-Sea, has a wealth of history, including tales of smugglers and evidence of its grandeur as a Victorian seaside resort with its pleasure pier and cliff lift still in operation. Today it is one of the most popular surfing beaches in the North of England boasting miles of golden sand.
Whatever your plans - sailing at nearby Scaling Dam, casting a line at trout fishery Lockwood Beck or warming up on Hunley’s courses before taking part in the Redcar and Cleveland Golf Week – Hunley is the perfect place to explore all of the sights that North Yorkshire has to offer.
